One of the characteristics and most important attraction in the GP2 Series is the absolute mechanical equality that guarantees that the drivers have the same possibilities as any other in this department, making the drivers into the deciding factor and not any other. After three years with the same original model being used in the championship, designed by Dallara, this year the teams have some totally revamped cars, and which have performance close to that of the cars used in Formula 1.
The car produces over 600bhp and accelerates from standing to 100km./h in 2.95 seconds, and up to 200km./h in 6.7 seconds, it has a top speed of 320km./h. During pre-season training at the Paul Ricard and Circuit de Catalunya tracks, the Repsol drivers Javier Villa and Giorgio Pantano were among the best in the category.
Both these drivers have been able to adapt quickly to the new Dallara car and have also been able to do some good work with the technicians, and are now very satisfied with the possibilities on the new car. In fact, after setting a fast pace and goood times in the different tests that have been carried out Villa and Pantano are two of the big favourites to fight for race victories this season
