After a great start to the season Dani Pedrosa returns to one of his lucky tracks - Shangai. The Spanish rider will return to the place where he got his first ever win in the top category of racing two years ago, and he will do so as joint leader of the overall classification in the World Championship, tied on points with Jorge Lorenzo. Now the Repsol Honda rider is concentrating on the Chinese GP, a date he feels optimistic about.
“What I most like about the circuit of Shangai is that it is wide” explains Dani Pedrosa. “The surface” he adds “is top quality but a bit rough, probably because of the cars that drive on it in the F1 race”. Moreover, this track holds happy memories for the Spanish rider – here he got his first ever MotoGP victory, in his first year in the top category back in 2006. What is more, last season the Repsol rider finished in fourth position.
One of the principal features of the Chinese track is that it has the longest straight in the whole championship – 1 202m. This straight is, according to the leader World Championship “one of the most important sections of the track” and it is where a rider needs “a good engine performance”. Braking is also very important at the circuit of Shanghai according to the Repsol man.
Pedrosa has finished on the podium in the three races so far this season and he won the Spanish GP at the Circuito de Jerez, results that have taken him to the top of the classification. Pedrosa admits that he has “made a very good start” although he also points out that he and his team continue to work “hard” so as to stay in the fight for the world title.
