The World MotoGP Championship will land in the Orient this week for the Chinese GP, the fourth race of the season. The start of the season has whetted appetiites and hopes are high that the whole of the year will be filled with spectacular racing. So there is no doubt that the track in Shanghai will witness another exciting duel between the riders at the top of the classification.
Everybody knows that the The World MotoGP Championship has got off to a blistering start. In just three races fans have seen how this year`s championship seems to be the most competitive for years, with riders like Dani Pedrosa, Nicky Hayden, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo battling it out to get into the leading positions. The reigning World Champion, Casey Stoner, has been left a little behind but he will have to pull his socks up in China if he does not want to lose touch with the leaders completely.
The race this weekend in Shanghai is on a track that holds good memorieos for the Repsol riders. Two years ago a young Dani Pedrosa, making his debut in the top category that year, won the race in just his fourth time out in MotoGP. Moreover, last year he got a deserved fourth place finish. The circuit is also special for Esteve Rabat as he got a podium finish for the first time ever in 2007.
The track in China is not an easy one. Shanghai has the longest straight in the championship something that demands “a motorbike with a good top speed in preference to one that accelerates well” according to Dani Pedrosa on his blog. And the truth is that, just like the World MotoGP Championship leader emphasises, “speed is the key in Shanghai”.
