Lorenzo has two broken ankles

Copy Yamaha

The injuries picked up by Jorge Lorenzo are more serious than they seemed at first. Taking a risk and riding in the Chinese GP may turn out to be very expensive for him after he decided to start the race at the circuit of Shanghai last Sunday. The Spanish rider had a spectacular accident on the first day of training. The mediical tests carried out upon his return to Spain revealed that he has two broken ankles.

Immediately after landing in Spain Jorge Lorenzo was taken to the Instituto Universitario Dexeus where he was given a check-up by Doctor Xavier Mir. The magnetic resonance on his two ankles confirmed the worst fears: fractured astragalus on his right ankle and a broken ligament on his left ankle. The only positive news is that the broken bone is not displaced, something that could have complicated his recovery even more.

Owing to the nature of these two breaks both ankles will have to be immobilised: a rigid support on his right ankle and an elastic one on his left. This means that Jorge Lorenzo will not be able to stand on his feet over the next few days, something that will make him miss out on riding and also probably the other types of commitments he has such as his visit to the motorbike fair in Barcelona, called the MotoOh!.

Doctor Mir does not want to given any definitive evaluation of the injuries until next week when he will give the rider another check-up. That is why at the moment, and with two weeks to go before the next MotoGP race is held, it is difficult to say whether Lorenzo will be participating in the French GP.
