Dani Pedrosa was second in Shanghai after putting in a great performance in spite of the wet surface – the race was called dry even though it was wet. Valentino Rossi was in the lead for a large part of the race and was the eventual winner, he is now just one win away from Ángel Nieto’s record. Casey Stoner could not keep up with the pace and finished third. Jorge Lorenzo was fourth in spite of his injured ankles.
The Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa got into the lead on the second lap and set a fast pace. Only Valentino Rossi was able to keep up with him but in the end he overtook the Spaniard and stayed in the lead for the rest of the race. Pedrosa stayed in second place and was never under any pressure, he won some valuable points which have made him into the World Championship leader. Casey Stoner was third in spite of not getting a good set up on his bike at Shanghai.
Jorge Lorenzo lost his position at the start and he found himself in seventh place where he felt comfortable and that was where he stayed for a large part of the race, however at the halfway stage he upped his pace and he moved into fourth position. And so the Yamaha rider, now second behind Pedrosa in the championship, had a great weekend even though he was injured during training on the first day.
The other Repsol Honda rider Nicky Hayden, fought back to overtake four riders and ended in sixth place ahead of Colin Edwards who had had the pole position. Toni Elías seems to have found a good set up on his Ducati and improved on his previous results this season and crossed the finishing line in eighth position.
