Le Mans is one of those places that fills motor-racing fans with nostalgia. The track was constructed in 1965, and so the French track is one of the oldest in the MotoGP calendar. It is located 200km from Paris and the circuit has seen some great moments in the history of motorcycling. Technically it is a track that is characterised by its low average speed and its straight corners, making good acceleration and braking into something very basic for a good weekend.
This weekend the World MotoGP Championship is back in Europe for six races in nine weeks on the old continent. The Spanish Repsol rider Dani Pedrosa goes to the circuit of Le Mans as the leader of the rider classification and with the intention of getting another victory so as to strengthen his lead. His teammate Nicky Hayden, on the other hand, will go to France aiming to get a podium finish.
Dani Pedrosa wants to have another great weekend out on the track and continue with his great start to the season by getting the victory in the French GP. This is a circuit where he has got good results in the past (he has won three times in the lower categories). The Spanish rider admits that, because of its characteristics, it is not his favourite circuit, but it is always “better to go to a venue where you have usually got good results”.
The MotoGP championship returns to Europe for the next few races and for the start of a long period in the old continent, the first race being in France at the legendary circuit of Le Mans. Starting next weekend, and until the middle of July, the World Motorcycling Championship will see a total of six races around Europe and these of course will be decisive in the battle for the championship. The Repsol riders, Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden, will be aiming for the top of the podium in the French GP.
Dani Pedrosa is the sole leader of the MotoGP championship in a season where exciting races and equality are the predominant factors. Fans of this sport are enjoying a spectacular start to the season and the Repsol rider forescasts that the whole season will be like this. “This World Championship will be fun for everybody” said the Spanish rider when he visited the Barcelona MotoOh! 2008 Fair.
