In search of success in San Marino

This weekend the circuit of Misano will host the first of the final six races in this year`s World MotoGP Championship. A race where the two Repsol riders hope to compete at the highest level they are well cappable of and so rediscover the route to success. The Spaniard Dani Pedrosa wants to make up for the setbacks he has had to endure over the last few weeks, while Nicky Hayden returns to racing after picking up an injury that prevented him from riding in Brno.

Dani Pedrosa has only one thing on his mind, to fight to win, as this would put him right back in the title race. “Winning the World Championship is more difficult now, but is it possible? Mathematically yes” he writes on his blog. Referring to Misano the rider explains that you have to take care on the first section of the track to get “a good lap time” although he says that his favourite part is the final section.

On the other hand Nicky Hayden returns to racing this weekend after missing out on the last race owing to the injury he picked up during the summer break. The American rider will use a special boot as his foot has not totally receoverd from the injury. Regarding the circuit, the Repsol rider says that “it is similar to Laguna Seca although it is totally flat: it is a small circuit, twisty and you have to be aggressive”.

The San Marino GP will also have a great atmosphere this weekend, it is no coincidence that the track is near Valentino Rossi`s home town, and the ‘tifosi’ will fill the stands with colour and noise. However the Italian still has not won at this circuit, one of the fastest in the calendar. The current MotoGP riders do not know the Misano circuit very well because even though it was in the calendar during the 80s it had to be revamped before it rejoined MotoGP last year. What is more to achieve a better level of safety the bikes now take it in the opposite direction.
