The likelihood of bad weather is what will condition the fourth date in this year`s WRC - the Rally Argentina. One of the most typical features in this race are the fords that the cars have to cross. However, the risk of rain has obliged the organisers to alter the route so as to avoid sections where flooding is more than probable, and so fords this year will be less frequent.
Argentina will once again challenge Sebastián Loeb and this season`s surprise driver Jari Matti Latvala. The former is the big favourite to carry off the victory after being crowned World Champion the last four years on the trot. The Finn will not put things on a plate for the Frenchman, who with his win in the Rally Sweden at the age of just 22 has made him into the youngest ever winner of an official WRC rally.
All in all though Loeb and Latvala will have to keep an eye on Mikko Hirvonen, the championship leader, who will of course want to recover his condition as lead driver at Ford after losing the spot to his team mate Latvala with his recent successes. Dani Sordo will also be out to start his fightback after his disappointing and accident plagued start to the World Championship.
The weather and racing conditions will determine the result in Argentina, since the weather forecast predicts heavy rain and even the risk of flooding. In summary, whatever the weather is like all the drivers will be using the same type of hard compound on their tyres as was used in Mexico, as was decided at the end of last year.
