The final day of the Rally Italy brought no surprises in the classification. Finally, Loeb kept the first position to the very end ahead of the Fords driven by Hirvonen and Latvala who were second and third, respectively. Galli finished fourth ahead of Dani Sordo, who was fifth.
Sébastien Loeb was able to protect his lead on the final leg and so get his fourth victory of the season, which at the same time was triumph number 40 in his career. On the final day, which was shorter than the others, the French driver kept his fellow drivers at bay and did not suffer any more than was necessary. In spite of this win the Citröen driver is still second in the drivers` classification.
In the end it was the two Ford drivers who accompanied Loeb on the podium. Hirvonen was second crossing the finishing line ahead of his teammate Latvala, who was third. With this result the Finn keeps his lead in the WRC with a total of 43 points followed by Loeb with 40, in second position, and Atkinson third with 31.
The local driver Gianluigi Galli finished fourth in front of the Spaniard Dani Sordo. The Spanish driver, Loeb`s teammate at Citröen, had a great first day but was not able to maintain the same high level on the following two days and he gradually fell back to fifth place. The next race in the WRC is the Rally Acropolis in Greece on 29th May – 1st June.
