As expected after the second day of this rally, Loeb triumphed in Mexican, climbing to the top step of the podium. He was joined by Atkinson, second, and Latvala, third. Hirvonen beat Henning Solberg in their private battle to snatch fourth place.
Sébastien Loeb has won the Rally Mexico for the third time in as many years. The French driver wisely managed the advantage he gained in the second day of the competition, and didn‘t allow his rivals to close the gap. This is his second win of the season after winning the first rally of the season in Monte Carlo.
Second place went to Chris Atkinson. This was the Subaru driver’s best result of the season, and one the best results of his career. The Australian retained the position he took from Latvala on the second day, knocking the Finnish driver down to the third step of the podium, which he must be pleased with after overcoming mechanical problems that cost him the leadership.
In the battle for fourth place, Hirvonen finally beat Henning Solberg. In the Scandinavian fight, the Finnish Ford driver demonstrated his worth, beating the Stobart driver, who had to make do with fifth place. With this result Hirvonen continues to lead the World Rally Championship standings ahead of Loeb. The next test in the World Rally championship will be the Rally Argentina, which will be held between the 27th and 30th of March.
