Alfa Romeo Mi.To: the start of a new era

Copy Alfa Romeo

The two features that catch the eye on the new compact sports car from Alfa Romeo the Mi.To is its marked city look, because of its small size, and its obvious sporty character. This car marks the beginning of a new era for the Italian firm, which has combined the latest technology with a pure design and Italian styling on this city sports car, something that has always characterised the vehicles it has ever made.

It is strange to find an Alfa Romeo model with a name that includes no number. The Italian company has carefully chosen the Mi.To name as it pays tribute to the two cities that have helped to make this project a reality and in the development of all Alfa Romeo cars. So the first two letters come from Milan, the city that represents the design of the company`s cars. And the other two letters come from Turin, Torino in Italian, the city that manufactures all Alfa Romeo cars.

Behind the name which has a lot of emotional charge for the Italian firm, the Mi.To is a new sports car concept for the car maker. In spite of having a clear influence from the 8C Competizione on its outline, a technological and styling icon for the company, the Alfa Mi.To marks a new beginning as it is smaller than the 147 model, so much so that the car is close to becoming a city car, but with the class and looks of a sports car.

It will be put on sale in September 2008 and to sum up its main characteristics and the level of equipment on it it is worth mentioning the Alfa DNA device; a system that acts on the engine, brakes, steering, suspension and gearboox, so as to allow three different types of behaviour and handling. These vary according to the demands of the driver: Dynamic means a sporty drive, Normal is for the city and All weather for safe driving when road grip levels are low. The new Mi.To has four engine options, all turbocharged, both petrol and diesel, with peak powers between 90bhp and 155bhp.
