EuroTAP gives a positive evaluation to Spanish tunnels

The quality of infrastructures is an issue that often crops up at European level and unfortunately Spain comes off worst many times. But this time the EuroTAP has carried out a study of tunnels around Europe and those in Spain have got good marks – one of the best evaluations regarding safety and quality in Europe.

The latest study made by the EuroTAP has given a positive mark to Spanish infrastructures and this may go some way to repairing the bad image that Spain has gained over the last few years. The EuroTAP study checked out 31 tunnels all over Europe, five of these were Spanish. The result obtained after this analysis was positive in general for Spain. Four of these five tunnels analysed in the study passed the exam without any problems, two were classified with an evaluation of “acceptable”, another two with a “very satisfactory” and only one failed the test and got no positive evaluation at all.

The sections that were examined in Spain were, Loma de Bas in Murcia, Guadarrama III in Madrid, Capistrano in Almería, Torrox in Málaga and the worst evaluation went to Pando in Asturias. The EuroTAP is a consortium that has been working in this field since 1999, studying, analysing and evaluating different sections of the infrastructures around Europe so as to identify and denounce any deficiencies that they come across on European road networks. The objective of these EuroTAP evaluations and reports is to improve and make the quality of infrastructures more uniform all over Europe.
