Sales on the internet soaring

2008 has started with some very interesting sales figures, above all when it comes to special offers, purchases and sales on the internet. According to the data recorded during the first quarter of the year the number of vehicles available on the internet has grown considerably, above all referring to second hand cars and those over 10 years of age.

Without a doubt the loss of the Plan Prever – New for Old – last year has brought a change in car owners` sales strategies, especially when the car in question is over a certain age and a new car is needed. After the disappearance of the subsidy for the scrapping of old vehicles known as the Plan Prever, the number of these second hand cars on the internet has risen, according to several sites specialised in the sale of vehicles, there was a growth of between 44% - 65% in the first quarter of the year, when compared to 2007.

The second hand car market on the internet is booming and recent figuures show that record figures are constantly being set. For example, the number of adverts on the internet in the first three months of 2008 has already passed the total figure for the whole of last year. The average age of the cars on offer via the internet is close to 16 years, and the average price around €700, depending of course on the model and age. The biggest portals for sale and purchase have quadrupled their internet turnover in the last few years and the truth is that in Spain the number of cars over ten years of age account for 32% of all cars on the road.
