There have been many surprises at the Geneva International Motor Show so far, but without a doubt one of the most important was the presentation of the new Mégane, made by the French firm Renault. The show is the place chosen by the company to show off the some of the features that the new design will have – with a more futurist look and a complete change to the contours that the Renault Mégane range had had since its creation.
The presentation of the Renault Mégane Coupé prototype a few days ago in Geneva means that the third generation of the Mégane will soon be at dealers, to be specific at the end of 2008. This prototype of a futuristic sports car has gone to Geneva to show off what the new look to be used on Renault vehicles will be.
Among the most important novelties on this prototype are the new style of opening used on the side doors and the lack of rear-view mirrors. They are hinged at the top and work in such a way that both the lateral and hatch doors open from the bottom upwards. They also open automatically, from both inside and outside the vehicle. Another of the eye-catching details on this prototype from Renault is that the body does away with external rear-view mirrors – it now uses two cameras, one on each side that send the images that are captured to two screens on the car`s central console.
The model on show at the Geneva International Motor Show has a capacity for four, with four well defined individual seats, and 21” aluminium wheels with seven spokes. Referring to the engine, and as Renault is aiming to get a sports performance, it uses a 200bhp 2.0 Turbocharged petrol unit that is connected to a six speed gearbox that accelerates from 0 to 100km/h en 7.2 seconds.
