Fernández de Sevilla, the Chairman of the Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Automóviles y Camiones – Spanish Car and Truck manufacturers` Association - has criticised high port tariffs as they directly affect the transport of cars by sea. The Swedish Volvo company has called in all the V70 and XC70 models sold in the last few years for checks because a failure in the system that activates the side airbags has been found. This call will affect a total of 65 000 vehicles and will be remedied by revising the software that controls the speed at which the system is activated in an accident. 43.000 of these vehicles have been sold outside Sweden. According to the latest data published, purchasing a car in Spain means an outlay of around €20 000. Money which many times, to be exact in eight out of every ten purchases, has to be borrowed from banks and credit companies. The new Seat Ibiza, presented to the world at the Centro de Prototipos de Desarrollo de Martorell, a little over a month ago is now being taken to all the big European capitals in three impressive trucks together with a giant exhibition stand. Each one of the trucks has a large glass box where the new model of the Ibiza is, so it is just like a shop-window. In total 17 countries will be visited on this new type of tour so that the Ibiza is seen all over Europe.
