Production of motorbikes in Spain falls almost 3%

The first half of 2008 has not been positive for the motorbike sector and industry, as production of motorbikes in Spanish factories was 72 880 units. This represents a fall of almost 3% compared to the same period last year.

The first half of the year has been negative for the motorbike sector, as production of motorbikes in Spanish factories has fallen 2.81%, according to data from Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade. This data is clearly related to the crisis that the motorbike sector is experiencing, as according to data from Anesdor, sales of motorbikes and mopeds have dropped 17.6% over these first six months.

This negative development of production in the motorbike sector is largely a consequence of the negative development of the motorbikes under 150cc segment, as production has fallen by 33 820 units, which is 17.8%. This data contrasts with the more than 14% increase represented by the 39 060 units of motorbikes over 150cc produced in Spanish factories during the first half of this year.
