The building and construction sector is very closely linked to the truck sector, so much so that the decline in building and construction over the last couple of years has a had a direct influence on the number of trucks and industrial vehicles that have been registered. And so with the latest bad news the truck manufacturing sector foresees a significant fall in the registration of works trucks this year.
In spite of recent announcements concerning the booming construction business, it seems that within Spain there has been a slowdown in building activity over the last two years. Moreover, according to many experts in the field it is is very unlikely that house building will once again reach the giddy heights of the last ten years any time in the near future. This conditions the sector of industrial vehicles directly and more specifiically that of trucks that work on building sites.
The fall in the construction of houses between 2005 and 2007 was around 21%, and this was reflected in the number of works trucks registered. According to the official figures last year 4.2% fewer works trucks were registered compared to 2006. And according to the forecasts for this year the fall could well reach 18% compared to 2007.
