Society's development
Plastic, besides being one of the most versatile and efficient materials within society's reach, also offers significant sustainable development.
Chemistry is the science that contributes most to the ongoing improvements in life expectancy and quality of life. Its permanent development has contributed to social well-being so much so that, without it, we would not have medication, vaccines, antibiotics, automobiles, transport vehicles, drinkable water, or enough food. We also couldn't read books, see photographs, talk on mobile telephones, or surf the internet. That is because in today's world, practically everything depends on chemicals.
Engine for change and source of employment
Plastics are vital components for mankind's progressive mobility. The ability to travel and communicate has become a reality everywhere on this planet, and plastics- so integrated in transportation and communication, from the mobile telephone to car engines- can be said to have truly helped improve the world. At the end of the 20th century plastics have been at the forefront of expanding our horizons, through space travel and the consequent exploration, bringing exciting possibilities for the future of mankind.
Europe's plastics industry enriches society, employing over 1.5 million people and generating sales of 159 billion euros.
