A refinery company is one that intervenes in the production chain form exploration, product and commercialization of crude (upstream), through to its transport to the refinery, refining, distribution and commercialization of the products (downstream). The refining activity is therefore integrated in the dominating downstream and is a link in the process which adds value to the crude.
The objective is the transformation of crude oil into products: combustibles, lubricants and asphalts. Along with this, a series of derivitives are also produced such as sulfur, coke, etc. and intermediate raw materials which are used as power sources in other industries, like the petrochemical industry in the case of Naphtha.
And it is so that life without oil would be very different. From crude petrol and dieesl are obtained for cars and buses, and other combustibles for use in boats and planes. It is also used to generate electricity, obtaintaing calorific energy for factories, hospitals and offices and to produce diverse lubricants for machinery and vehicles.
On the other hand, the petrochemical industry uses derivitive products from these to make plastics, synthetic fibres, detergents, medicines, and food conservers, amongst others.
It is present in the day-to-day of all of us: in toothbrushes, soaps and cosmetics that complete our daily hygiene routine, in the textile fibres in clothing that covers us and on the soles of our shoes that complete our look.
In food production that brings us together at the table and in the packaging and plastic containers that conserve them. The raw materials with which all these articles are made, as well as other thousands that we use in our daily life, are produced by the petrochemical industry.
Oil has changed the lives of people and the economy of nations. Its discovery created wealth, modernity, prosperous industrial towns and new employment, stimulating the growth of the industries mentioned
