
For the second year in a row, Repsol YPF has been included in the Dow Jones sustainability index. What's more, it has become the "Social Dimension" leader, according to this prestigious Index.

Repsol YPF's social commitment encompasses both the employees who make up the company and the community which it is a part of. This relation is formalised by means of the Commitments to employees and to society which are included within the company's ethics framework.
The people who work in the Company, with their talent and commitment to our Vision, are the motors of the Repsol YPF's activity. For this reason, we strengthen our human capital and we provide it with the training and support needed in order for it to continue growing and developing.
Furthermore, by carrying out our activity, we have established mutual benefit relations with the societies in which we are present, which allow us access to diverse natural resources and human capital, while at the same time we provide the community with innovation and technology, training and economic income in a framework that respects social and environmental balance.
In 2005, Repsol YPF has carried out its social commitment and has allocated 33 million euros towards the promotion of social and cultural projects, mainly in education and training, health, social integration and community development in the countries where the company is present, as well as the training and professional development of its employees.

Human Rights
The company understands human diversity as a source of competitive advantage which allows it to stand at the head of the competition by means of the integration of different people and the stimulus of mutual learning. As a result, attention to human rights and diversity are present in Repsol YPF's activities.
For this, respect and protection are reflected in the company's internal policies and also through its adhesion to external initiatives such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, the Declaration of the OCDE regarding Behaviour of Multinational Companies in Foreign Territory and the principles of the Global Compact.
Repsol YPF enunciates its Policy of Respect for People and their Diversity on the basis of these principles. Through this document, which is of a corporate nature, the company commits itself to carrying out all activities without any kind of discrimination, be it for race, gender, religious, political or union, nationality, language, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or social background reasons, or any other conditions.
Safety
The different social, political and citizen safety situations, where Repsol YPF is present, make it necessary for the protection and safety of personnel and installations to be guaranteed. For Repsol YPF, the carrying out of physical safety measures is of priority importance, both in order to evaluate its effectiveness, as well as to ensure the compliance with the law and the respect of human rights.
Repsol YPF gathers these ideas together in its Requirements for Physical Safety for Fieldwork Activities, whose international references are the Global Compact of the United Nations (UN), the adhesion to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights and the report from the OGP Firearms and the use of force, with regard to the use of firearms and force.

The total number of people employed by Repsol YPF as of 31st December 2005 rose to 35,909, which is an increase of 7.71% in comparison with 2004. These figures are distributed throughout more than 20 countries in the following geographical areas: Spain 50.7%; Latin America 43.4% and Rest of the World 5.9%. By business areas, 8.6% of workers are found in Exploration and Production; 63.1% in Refining and Marketing (includes LPG); 8.9% in Chemicals; 5.9% in Gas and Power and 13.5% others.(*)
In 2005 the number of employees rose by 2,572. The external rotating of permanent staff was 8.8% in 2005, whereas in 2004 and 2003 it was 8.4% and 6.8% respectively.
At Repsol YPF we look for coherence between people management practices with necessities and organisational objectives, in such as way that we can fill each position with workers who have the ideal profile, while motivating and keeping on to our highly-valued human capital. In 2005, the company invested 11 million euros in the training and development of its employees. Training
Training is a key factor to success in the process of adapting the capacity and abilities of employees to the needs of the organisation in the achieving of strategic objectives. From an internal point of view, training processes promote a common culture, favour corporate cohesion, make response easier in the light of organisational and technological changes, however, they are also a means of external relation, contributing to the diffusion of the best practices in the sector and also the exchanging of experiences between professionals.

Contributing to development in the community
Repsol YPF collaborates with society, providing answers to identified needs, by means of sustained investments which promote education, health, social integration, community development, the protection of the environment and culture.
In 2005, 22.7 million euros were destined towards the financing of 613 programs of a social and cultural nature by means of agreements of collaboration with 200 organisations worldwide.

Our Foundations
As a complement to the actions carried out by the company, the Repsol YPF Foundation, YPF Foundation and the Repsol YPF Ecuador Foundation work on complementary strategic lines and allocate their resources mainly towards scientific research, promoting academic preparation among young people, as well as the international broadening of knowledge by means of education and culture.
