Repsol YPF Volunteer "Helping Hands" - "A Roof for My Country" (Peru)

I. Description

The Volunteer Programme of Repsol YPF Peru called “Helping Hands” (Manos Amigas) is composed of employees at Repsol YPF who voluntarily carry out day assignments in schools, canteens and settlements in Lima and Ventanilla In 2006 they collaborated in construction projects for modular houses for inhabitants of Ventanilla with limited resources, where approximately 100 volunteers of Repsol YPF participated. This initiative was carried out with the NGO "A roof for my country ", an institution made up of by young male volunteers who are employed at the most depressed zones of Peru constructing houses of wood for those who live on the land and surrounded with mats.

Housing and Construction

Helping Hands, Repsol YPF in Peru’s voluntary work programme, helped to construct 30 modular housings for the families with lower resources in Ventanilla

II. Objetives

- General Objective:
Integrate employees in activities of social responsibility which the company is promoting.

- Specific Objective:
Help to build houses in the Ventanilla area, where Repsol YPF has one of its refineries. In addition, the activity is not only about constructing housing, but about interacting with the families, closing gaps, sharing experiences, learning and having fun. The project aims to sensitise and generate commitment in the employees, showing them a reality which can be changed if they act together.

- Foreseeable goals:
1. To improve the quality of life of the persons who live in Ventanilla, thanks to the construction of modular housings.
2. To sensitize the workers of Repsol YPF with the reality experienced in Ventanilla and likewise to promote the volunteer work in the future.

III. Results

Beneficiaries: 

Direct beneficiaries: 

150 persons who now have housing in the district of Ventanilla.
