The environment

In education as well as in community development, programs to raise awareness about protecting the environment are being carried out. Of the total social investment in 2007, approximately 1.5 million euros- 5% of the total- have gone towards this end.

The programme "Our Environment, Our Home" ("Nuestro ambiente, nuestro hogar") is an example of this. It is developed by Repsol YPF Bolivia in the communities where the Company operates. 

In 2007, Environmental Workshops were held at all educational units within the area of direct influence of the company's operations (in the Fields Paloma, Surubi and Surubi NE) through the theatrical representation of children's stories in the series "Our Environment, Our Home" published by the company. These workshops are intended to educate children and their parents about the preservation and care of the Environment and create interest in this matter. They also aim to raise awareness among farmers about the damage caused by so-called “chaqueo” (burning weeds before sowing).

Repsol YPF has been participating in the project “Marine biodiversity on the Patagonian coast” since 2004. It consists of a long-term programme of identification and census of examples of the southern right whale (Eubalaena australis) in port Madryn and port Pirámide, in the province of Chubut, Argentina.

The main objective is to carry out coastal censuses by photo-identification of the southern right whales that visit the New Gulf. The project also aims to obtain information about the biology and ecology of this species, and about how the whales interact with human activities in the region. Other aims include documentary and educational activities relating to the southern right whale.
