The social environmental education and the investigation of biodiversity are considered basic tasks to raise society´s awareness towards preservation of the environment. Repsol YPF collaborates in diverse programs that contemplate the conservation of protected areas, as well as. It´s worth mentioning the following:

The aim of Repsol YPF's collaboration with this organisation is to continue carrying out health campaigns for animals that live with society.
FABA is a non-profit-making organisation dedicated to health and education-related tasks with the aim of improving quality of life of animals.
Its vision is to make society understand that Animal Welfare is synonymous with Human Welfare.
The main objective of this project is to know the reality of the soulthern right whales that can be found in the region. This includes both the obtention of information on biology and ecology of the species, and aspects related to the interaction between the whales and the human activities in the region. The information obtained in this program is used in the educational and raising awareness activities. These activities are carried out in the context of the tourist visits (in Puerto Pirámide) and/or the visits to the EcoCentro in Puerto Madryn.

Project of conservation and raising awareness on the most peculiar trees of the spanish territory cataloguing those trees that clearly stand out for some of the following characteristics: rarity, unusual form, age, size or history. With the data collected in the inventory a database of the trees will be created. The project has been financed by Repsol YPF, Biodiversity Foundation and CajaMadrid social work, along with the contribution of the Environment Ministry and the companies Mitsubishi and Dinasa.

Project aimed at the study and conservation of the Buho Real (Royal Owl), a scarce species in Spain, threatened by the trasformations of its habitat and the reduction of its natural preys. Repsol collaborates with the Fraguas de Eume Nature Reserve to preserve this species and to recover it in the Galician forests.
Before the eventual threat of extinction of the Humboldt penguin, one of the most representative birds of the Peruvian fauna, Repsol YPF has elaborated a novel program sponsored by the Peruvian Association for the Conservation of Nature and the EAF Foundation in Holland: the "Educational Bus". The initiative consists of a travelling mobile program that goes along the Peruvian coast with interactive educational materials, photos, thematic bibliography and videos. During the first route travelled, it expects to raise awareness on more than 5.000 primary education children and to prepare 500 educational institutions.
Repsol YPF signed an agreement in 1999 with a Bolivian NGO, Foundation Friends of the Nature (FAN), through which three books on wild flora and fauna in Bolivia were published:
