The production of spills is inherent to the oil industry. Spills put at risk the soil and groundwater and constitute an environmental risk of great importance nowadays. The management of spills is closely related to soil and groundwater management, sharing the same principles in environmental respect. In agreement with the normative, a great effort is being made at Repsol YPF to prevent spills, looking for the cause of each of them and acting on it. Once the spill has occurred, of which a large part is water associated with crude, all the water and hydrocarbon spilled are collected and the soil, as well as the groundwater, are remediated.
