Air emissions
The main pollutants emitted into the atmosphere due to company’s activities, other than greenhouse gases, are SO2, NOx, non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs), CO and particulate matter (PM).
Protection of the atmosphere is a priority for Repsol YPF. Consequently, the company has developed programmes to control and reduce emissions in its different activities.
In this regard, it is worth noting the energy efficiency programmes that are being developed in the refining area which help optimizing fuel consumption and reducing emissions into the atmosphere, and, in particular, the flare gas recovery project implemented at the Puertollano refinery (Spain), which ended in 2007. The project’s aim is to reduce the flow of gases that are emitted without energetic use.

Historical evolution of contaminants:
- Sulphur dioxide (SO2)
- Non-Methane Volatile Organic Compounds (NMVOC)
- Nitrogen oxide (NOx)
- Carbon monoxide and particles
