Repsol YPF position on climate change

Repsol YPF shares the concern of public administrations, citizens and the company that human activity is causing and will continue to cause in the future with still unpredictable consequences. 

In spite of uncertainties, which still persist, Repsol YPF believes it is necessary to apply the precautionary principle, limiting emissions of so-called Greenhouse Gases (GHG) into the atmosphere with technical viability and economical efficiency criteria.

For this reason the company has been making a great effort for several years in order to increase the efficiency and saving of energy, as well as reduce GHG emissions throughout its operations.

In addition, Repsol YPF declares its readiness to collaborate with the governments of those countries in which it operates in order to facilitate compliance with the international commitments acquired, in particular the Kyoto Protocol.

In this context, along with the direct reduction of emissions in industrialized countries, Repsol YPF has pledged its firm commitment to the use of the Protocols Flexibility Mechanisms, especially the Clean Development Mechanism, as a way of reaching global GHG emission reduction targets, by using resources efficiently and contributing to technological transfer and the sustainable development of countries.

Likewise, Repsol YPF backs other market-based initiatives which allow the use of resources to be flexibly optimised, without damaging the competitiveness of the industry.

Climate Change is not only a global problem because of its proportions, but also because it is the consequence of many different human activities which involve all social agents. Repsol YPF is prepared to contribute responsibly in the great challenge presented by the need to mitigate Climate Change.
